Bui Quang Khiem was born in 1970 in Hanoi
Although graduated from department of Printmaking in Hanoi University of Fine Arts (nowadays Vietnam University of Fine Arts), Bui Quang Khiem is now working on drawing while still using the printmaking materials. However, his do paper paintings also reveal his taste in monotone style, just like printmaking works. Khiem almost gets his inspiration from calligraphy, either for do paper paintings or other types. He loves the tones of Chinese ink on the ivory do paper. To him, the unexpected effect of spreading ink on the do paper surface challenges him, but also awakes the artistic man in him. The fragile do paper, the vaporous Chinese ink themselves expose the charming dancers and women that Bui Quang Khiem is portraying. So, although working with other techniques and materials too, but Bui Quang Khiem has chosen Chinese ink on do paper for this elegant subject only. Up to now, he is one of the most skillful do paper painters.
