Born in Solo, Central Java, Indonesia, Djoko KS studied architecture and interior design before turning his attentions to painting. He studied painting with the famous Indonesian painters Srihadi and Pirous. With them, Djoko discovered a modern approach to form and color. Over time, many of his expressionistic works were themed around Chinese calligraphy, revealing what Djoko calls his artistic energy or “chi.”
