Les Horvat
Les Horvat spent over twenty years working as an award winning photographer in a career at the leading edge of commercial, advertising photography in Australia. He worked freelance for clients drawn from top Australian and overseas design studios and advertising agencies, before setting up his own multi-studio complex, Twilight Zone Studios, which operated for eight years as a significant creative centre for commercial photographic illustration in Melbourne.
Horvat has won numerous awards including the Kodak Professional Photography Achievement Award, Gold and Silver at the Australian Professional Photography Awards, and has been accepted into the Fuji ACMP Collection. In 1999 he also achieved Masters status, within the peak photographic industry body, the Australian Institute of Professional Photography. He has also co-authored a photographic text on digital imaging, published worldwide in four languages, and now up to its third edition.
Having completed his Doctoral Thesis on the cultural effects on creative expression, Horvat continues to pursue research on the pedagogy and social interactions underpinning creativity. He also undertakes his own photographic projects, exhibits regularly in group and solo shows whilst working at Photography Studies College (Melbourne) as a photographic educator. His current project is centred on Vietnam, where he is exploring the notion of the cultural landscape and its intersection with memory.
